Our Mission

Our purpose is to provide an atmosphere of trust in which children and families who are grieving a death share their experiences, receive support and find comfort. We are able to do this through peer support groups, education and training.

Mary’s Place is a 501(c) 3 organization, governed by a Board of Directors. Recognizing that after a death families may experience financial concerns, Mary’s Place does not charge a fee for its services nor do we receive any state or federal funding. All programs are supported solely through donations from individuals, foundations or companies.

Our Philosophy

Mary’s Place operates under the principles of the Dougy Center, the first center for grieving children in the United States, located in Portland Oregon.

We believe

  • Grief is a natural reaction to death for children as well as adults.
  • Within each individual is the natural capacity to heal oneself.
  • The duration and intensity of grief are unique for each individual.
  • Caring and acceptance assist in the healing process.
