From the Director

It is often said we are a club that no one wants to join. A house that welcomes sorrow with rooms that embrace tears. We may be all that but we are so much more. We are children, teens and adults who come together to share stories and reflect on how life is forever changed. We are families who gather strength from each other and begin to define who we are without that special person. We are, more than anything, a place that offers the hope that we can and will persevere in the face of whatever pain has come our way.

That hope is evident so often in our children’s artwork and projects. But last week, at our Annual Family Picnic, it could be seen in the faces that border this page. It was a
beautiful day in which our families came
together to share memories, enjoy some food
and release butterflies in honor of their
loved ones.

Our Gala in September is fast approaching. I hope you will join us, as it is an excellent opportunity for you to experience that
sense of hope. As always, I thank you all for your support. More and more people are reaching out to us in unique and heartwarming ways. It is your support that allows Mary’s Place to continue to be the place of hope and healing it is to so many. On behalf of our children and families, I thank you.

Warmly,
Lisa Peluso

So many ways in which you have made a difference...
...in so many lives...
...our children and families thank you.
“When we honestly ask ourselves which person in our lives means the most to us, we often find that it is those who, instead of giving much advice, solutions, or cures, have chosen rather to share our pain and touch our wounds with a gentle and tender hand. The friend who can be silent with us in a moment of despair or confusion, who can stay with us in an hour of grief and bereavement, who can tolerate not knowing, not curing, not healing and face with us the reality of our powerlessness, that is a friend who cares.” -- Henri Nouwen

Our Thanks and Best Wishes, Peggy

We recently said goodbye to long time Teen Volunteer Facilitator Peggy Ehrhardt. Peggy has been a volunteer with our teens for over 10 years . We are most grateful for her many hours of service and dedication. The teens presented Peggy with a card (left) and of course, her rocks.

When asked , You know you have made a difference when… Peggy responded, “ When you see the kids change and grow. With each group they begin to share and talk more about the death. They are really different people when they leave compared to when they first came to the group.”

You have certainly made a difference Peggy! Thanks so very much!
