Making Memories
From The Director Summer 2019
Dear Friends,
So much of summertime is spent making memories with loved ones. From weekend getaways to afternoons spent swimming and lounging, summer is a time to enjoy being together. For our kids and families, especially those who have been recently hit by the tidal wave of grief, summer can be a difficult time. The beautiful weather beckons us to enjoy all of the fun activities this time of year has to offer, but memories of past summers spent with loved ones who have died can be bittersweet. Bittersweet and yet, we want to remember those special times - we need to.
From our annual Memory Walk, Family Picnic and Butterfly Release to different projects, activities and games in our groups, we find new and creative ways to honor our loved ones and keep their memories alive.
Recently, in our little kids group, kids decorated tote bags that reflected summer memories with their special person who died. Carrying their bags into new activities they will engage in without their special person is a reminder of those good times and a way to keep their special person
with them.
I invite you to close your eyes and go back to a
memory with a loved one. Picture their face in your mind, their smile, hear the sound of their voice. Be with them for a while and know that in thinking of them and talking about them, they continue to live on in you.
Whether you attend our events, make a donation or simply
share about Mary’s Place with others, you are helping to provide a place for children and families to come together after devastating loss to
share memories and bring comfort, hope and healing to one another.
Thank you for being a vital part of our mission. We couldn’t do it without you.
Warmly, Brittany Sheehan
