Grief Support Liaison (Part-Time)
The Grief Support Liaison plays a vital role in providing compassionate support to families navigating grief at our center. This position involves organizing and leading grief support groups, family nights, and support meetings, as well as facilitating school-based groups and community presentations. The ideal candidate will have experience in grief support, exceptional interpersonal skills, and the ability to create meaningful connections with individuals of all ages.
Although this is a part-time position, the Grief Support Liaison is expected to make a full-time commitment to the mission of the center. We are not simply looking for someone to do a job, but for a dedicated team member who will become an integral part of our close-knit organization. A key aspect of this role is the ability to adapt to the organization’s culture and goals, ensuring that personal initiatives align with the center’s mission. This includes being open to feedback, collaborating effectively with management, and leveraging individual strengths to enhance existing programs and services. The Grief Support Liaison will work closely with team members to foster a supportive environment, ultimately helping children and families find healing and connection in their journey through grief.
Responsibilities:

Support existing center programs with compassion and sensitivity.

Assist in the planning and facilitation of quarterly family nights and workshops for all groups, curating creative and therapeutic activities that foster an environment of connection, creativity, and mutual support.

Facilitate the young adult support group as well as school-based grief support groups for students.

Conduct parent education sessions on Sundays during children’s groups 1-2 times per year, offering guidance on navigating grief and supporting children through loss.

Provide occasional support on Sundays during children’s groups as well as assist with family intakes when additional support is required. These are not routine duties but backup tasks that the Grief Support Liaison can be relied upon to assist with when necessary, in emergency situations.

Deliver presentations in the community about grief and loss, emphasizing best practices for supporting children.

Collaborate with the Outreach Coordinator and Executive Director to cultivate relationships with outside agencies and offer additional support to community groups, teachers, and schools.

Assist with grief calls, offering empathetic support and guidance to individuals in need.

Host support meetings, providing individualized care and guidance to families, including helping them learn how to talk with children about death and grieving.

Collaborate with all team members to enhance the overall effectiveness of the center’s programs and services.

Assist the Executive Director with grief support and other center initiatives as needed.
Requirements:

Previous experience in grief/bereavement support or related field required.

Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills.

Ability to create and implement creative programming for diverse age groups.

Sensitivity to the unique needs of individuals experiencing grief.

Flexible schedule to accommodate weekend and evening responsibilities.

Capacity to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.

Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel; excellent Mac computer literacy.

Bachelor’s degree preferred.
Working Hours:
This is a part-time position, requiring approximately 35-45 hours per month. The estimated hours are 8-10 hours per week, though they may vary depending on the needs of the center. The Grief Support Liaison must be available for in-person work at the center at least one weekday afternoon/evening, for approximately 5-8 hours, with a preference for Tuesdays. There must also be flexibility to accommodate quarterly staff meetings and needs that arise in our community. The Grief Support Liaison reports directly to the Executive Director.
